What is the difference between raw and natural varnish?
Our raw pieces are as they are crafted, and do not have varnish, paint or any other treatment applied. Our natural varnish is a matt finish applied to a natural piece of furniture which allows the piece to retain its natural colour, with an added element of protection against the elements. There is little to no colour difference in the natural raw or natural varnish.
How do I care for my natural fibre furniture and homewares?
Our furniture is made from sustainable and natural fibres. All natural fibres such as wood, cane and clothing can form a residue or be affected by mould over time, especially in humid conditions. Iron oxide stains - dark spots caused by prolonged exposure to water or metal can also occur. These are not inherent faults but a result of the interaction between natural fibres and the enviroment.
The best way to maintain your furniture is to keep it clean and dry, free of dust and in cases where mould or staining occurs, it can be easily rejuvenated by applying oxalic acid according to product directions.
Can I place an order if I live overseas?
If you are located outside of Australia and wish to place an order, we may be able to ship to you, please contact us and advise your country and postcode with details of the pieces you are interested in.
Why choose hand-crafted over mass produced?
You are buying a truly special, unique and skilfully crafted piece for your home that is imbued with love from the maker. The natural imperfections, incredible weave, even the amazing smell of each piece tells a story of its origin and will bring a warmth and character to your home that cannot be replicated with mass produced copies, who damage our artisans livelihoods. Buy good, do good!
Natural materials and what to expect
All of our Coastal Drift pieces are handcrafted by master artisans in Africa, often in remote villages with no accessibility to modern furniture crafting methods or inputs. The natural fibres used will mean each piece is unique, with their own imperfections, natural cracking and tonal differences. These are not faults, but celebrated imperfections of a premium quality, handcrafted item made with natural fibres.
